Immediately renewed look with blepharoplasty: eliminate bags and rejuvenate your eyes for a fresh and rejuvenated appearance. They can express your emotions to others around you like sadness, joy, anger and fatigue. With aging, the delicate tissues around your eyes begin to loose their natural support and strength. Many factors, like family history, sun exposure and smoking, may accelerate this process. The eyebrows can droop. Sagging, puffiness, wrinkles and bags under your eyes may appear making you look older and more tired. Some people may even experience interference with their vision.
What is blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is the medical term for eyelid surgery. Upper blepharoplasty usually deals with sagging of the upper eyelids, while lower blepharoplasty is performed to remove bags under the eyes. These procedures can be performed together or separately.
Blepharoplasty can be combined with procedures like brow lift and facelift for a more balanced result depending on your individual needs.
Blepharoplasty is not a procedure to remove crow’s feet although they may improve considerably. You may have to consider applying botulinum toxin to improve these types of wrinkles.
The Blepharoplasty Procedure
Blepharoplasty is usually performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia and minor sedation. You will be asleep and will feel no pain during the entire procedure. It usually takes from one to two hours depending on the surgical plan.
The incisions are made on natural creases of the lids for upper blepharoplasty or just under the lashes for lower blepharoplasty. Excess skin and fat are removed and many times an elongated eyelid is corrected. Incisions are closed with very fine sutures. If have bags under your eyes, but have no excess skin, a transconjunctival blepharoplasty will be performed through an incision inside the eyelid.
Recovery from Blepharoplasty
You may experience swelling, bruising and possible eye irritation immediately after the procedure. There will be little o no pain. If you experience discomfort you may take minor painkillers.
You will need to keep your head elevated and will be instructed to apply cool compresses every 2 hours for 48 hours after the procedure to reduce bruising and swelling. Sutures are removed in 5 to 7 days. You may return to work within five to seven days. After one month most of the healing is complete. The incisions will start to fade after 6 months.
